Dr. Richard D. Lappen
Dr. Richard D. Lappen graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry in 1976. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree, with honors, from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. Dr. Richard Lappen has been in private practice for over 35 years, starting his own practice in 1980, specializing in fitting and evaluating all types of contact lenses and managing many eye conditions.
Dr. Lappen is board-certified in therapeutic medications in Pennsylvania and is a member of the American Optometric Association, Pennsylvania Optometric Association, a charter member of the AOA Corneal and Contact Lens Section, and the Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce.
When he’s not working with patients, he’s busy keeping up with his grandkids. He and his wife Stephanie have four grandsons.


Dr. Jonathan B. Lappen
A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Dr. Jonathan B. Lappen graduated from Ithaca College in New York with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He earned an additional degree in visual sciences as well as a Doctor of Optometry degree, with clinical honors, from the distinguished Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. He interned with some of the nation’s top eye care professionals at Wills Eye Hospital and Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia, Associates in Ophthalmology in Pittsburgh and Eye Doctors of Washington in Washington, DC.
Dr. Jonathan Lappen returned to his wife’s home state of Louisiana in 2008 and joined the prestigious private practice of St. Charles Vision. He was named clinical director and held that position until returning home to Pittsburgh in 2018.
Dr. Lappen is a member of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association, and Western Pennsylvania Optometric Society. He specializes in comprehensive and emergency eye care and the medical management of eye disease.
Dr. Lappen enjoys running, waterskiing and watching sports. He and his wife Michelle are proud parents of two sons, Matthew and Shai.
Dr. Sheila Drexler Royall
Dr. Sheila Drexler Royall is a highly experienced and compassionate optometrist dedicated to providing exceptional eye care. A graduate of Gannon University with a Bachelor of Science, she earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from Salus University (formerly the Pennsylvania College of Optometry). Her extensive clinical training includes prestigious internships at the Newmann Eye Institute and St. Luke’s Cataract & Laser Institute.
Dr. Drexler Royall is licensed in Pennsylvania and Florida and brings three decades of experience to her field. She was the owner and operator of Drexler Eye Care Associates in Florida before establishing her practice in the Greensburg Area, where for the past 15 years she has built strong, lasting relationships with patients and their families.
As an active member of the American Optometric Association, the Pennsylvania Optometric Association, and the Florida Optometric Association, Dr. Drexler Royall remains current with the latest advancements in eye care, upholding the highest professional standards.
Outside of the office, Dr. Drexler Royall enjoys an active lifestyle with her husband, which includes kayaking on the Conemaugh, traveling around the world, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers. They live in Greensburg and enjoy spending time with their four adult children.


Dr. Edward A. Ross
Dr. Edward A. Ross has been an optometrist for almost 40 years. After studying Mathematics at Yeshiva University, he attended SUNY College of Optometry in New York City. He practiced in NY before returning to his native Pittsburgh to be close to family. In 1991, he established his first private eyecare practice in Pitcairn. He acquired his second office in Squirrel Hill, joining Dr. Frederick Smith, in 2000.
Dr. Ross enjoys practicing primary eyecare and has extensive experience co-managing surgical patients. He loves spending his time with his grandchildren, following the Pittsburgh sports teams, and traveling.
Dr. Evan Lowry
Dr. Lowry completed an internship in pediatrics and low vision. He received further education upon graduation, and is certified to diagnose and treat glaucoma and eye diseases. He works with many ophthalmologists in Western Pennsylvania and manages pre- and post-operative cataract, glaucoma and refractive surgeries.
He manages a diverse contact lens practice that specializes in astigmatic, bifocal and keratoconic contact lenses in a variety of materials.
