Am I Due for an Eye Exam? When to Go

Do you know how often you should go for an eye exam? Seeing the eye doctor regularly can help you take care of your eyes and avoid debilitating eye diseases. At Lappen Eye Care, we recommend that our patients see the eye doctor regularly to get checked for eye conditions and poor vision. See below, more information about when it’s time to see the eye doctor in Pittsburgh and the surrounding area.

How Often to Get Regular Eye Exams

If you have prescription lenses of any kind, see your eye doctor every year or two. When you see your eye doctor for eye exams in Pittsburgh and the surrounding area, your eye doctor will check to ensure that your corrective lenses still match your prescription. If your eyesight (and thus your prescription) has changed, then you will need new corrective lenses.

If you don’t have prescription lenses, but are at high risk for conditions like glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy, your eye doctor may recommend coming in annually for comprehensive eye exams. During these eye exams, your eye doctor will dilate your eyes and look inside for evidence of eye diseases.

Know the Signs of Vision Trouble

Know when to see your eye doctor. Signs of vision trouble include:

  • Eye pain
  • Vision is cloudy or hazy
  • Colors seem dim
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Double vision
  • Flashes of light appear in vision
  • Tunnel vision
  • Vision is blurry, even with prescription lenses on
  • Haloes appear around lights

If you’re noticing any of these problems or other problems relating to your vision, speak with your eye doctor to make an appointment. Some of these symptoms could be signs of a serious problem, so don’t delay.
